PDF Resize

Post by Erazor »

Hi all,

I am looking for a tool to resize a PDF to a much smaller size please? We are using Switch. We would like to use something to reduce the size of an PDF from example 60 MB to a couple of MB, mailable size.

There are ways to do this with PitStop Server in Switch. There are standard action lists to do that: get rid of attachments, subset fonts, ... and (this has the most effect) downsample images. There is of course only so much you can do without compromising quality. The only way to tell is to run a couple of tests with representative files and some different settings.

An alternative approach to mailing files to customers is to use the PDF Review Module. You then only send a link to your customer and he can look at the file in a browser. The only thing that is "downloaded" are the pixels for displaying the file on the customer's screen, but he is actually viewing the high resolution file, and this in a correct way in terms of overprints and transparency, something that is not guaranteed when the customer is opening the PDF locally. It is more reliable and it is faster.
