Adobe Creative Cloud license for Switch

Post by pfischer »

Hello together,

one question (to the enfocus employees): which kind of license for Adobe applications do I need to install on a machine with Enfocus Switch and the configurator module to start tasks from Switch.
We have a Switch installation with configurator module and make some tasks in Photoshop (like image conversion). It's a normal Adobe CC installation. Now I have read that it is not allowed to use Photoshop hotfolder-driven on a server. The adobe staff member is talking about a "programmatic license" for Photoshop. Actually there is server version for Photoshop available.

Look here:
"Please note that your EULA does not allow you to use Photoshop (or InDesign or Illustrator or Acrobat or...) on a machine that allows more than one user access to the program. That is to say, you can't write scripts for Photoshop and trigger those scripts from a hot folder if more than one user can have access to the hot folder."
https://forums.adobe.com/message/3466847#3466847

Switch offers such a hotfolder based solution for more than one user. I have searched through the enfocus FAQs but didn't find anything.

Thanks for any information.

Photoshop is NOT my first choice for processing images. It is slow and it can only process one image at the time. It is much more efficient to use ImageMagick. It is a command line tool that is available as a free download: https://imagemagick.org/index.php. You can quite easily integrate it in a Switch flow using "Execute command".

ImageMagick has a lot, a lot of options. Using some of these can be quite tricky and difficult. But for common operations like image conversions, scaling, changing the resolution, etc. ImageMagick is very easy to use. And again, it is much faster than using Photoshop because it does not carry the burden of a user interface and it can process files concurrently.

Hi Freddy,
thanks so far. We know about ImageMagick and actually realize our image conversion tasks with it (not via Switch, but with a webservice of our Digital Asset Management).

But there are some issues/tasks (like layer handling and complete support of file format options) where ImageMagick has some lacks and doesn't satisfy our claims.

So we want to execute a proof of concept to check an automatized photoshop solution as an alternative.

In future there may be the same question about Adobe Illustrator licenses. Does the standard Adobe license includes a hot folder used Illustrator-installation via Switch?

Thanks for your response.

What I have heard about this question is that the number of persons that have access to the Switch workflow must have a license themselves for the applications that they use in Switch. So if you are four people that can send files to Switch for conversion in an Adobe application those four need one license from Adobe each. On top of that you need another license to run those applications in Switch.
