HP Smartstream and multiple excel records

Hi All,
I've got an excel file that has multiple records in it that I need to merge into an Illustrator or Indesign file. The tricky part is that the multiple records all need importing into a single text box resulting in a mulit-line, tab delimited box of text.
Any ideas on how to get this done?
Anybody done anything similar via scripting?
