Input folder with time-controlled outputs

Post by senghaas »

Hello colleagues,
I'm looking for a way to get time-controlled output options from one input folder. During the day the incoming data should go into a different workflow than at night. And once a day, at 5 o'clock in the morning, all remaining files should go to another collection folder. So I need a logic that serves 3 outputs time-controlled.
Switch allows the monitoring of an input folder only once. Therefore I cannot build the 3 actions in three different workflows. That would be very simple, of course. Does anyone have an idea? Do we need scripting here?
Thank you very much for your help,

Best regards, Juergen

This may or may not be what you're looking for. If you have an input folder with 3 outbound connections, each with a Hold Job attached to it, you can set a time-of-day condition on each hold (you set that in the outbound connection). Then each one is attached to the appropriate workflow.

Hello, JSlater and colleagues,
the idea looked so simple and good at first sight - but unfortunately it doesn't work as a distributor (or "Switch") but as a multiplier. The data remain all in the input folder and are distributed depending upon time then into the different channels. All files. Our basic requirement was to move the incoming files to a different output depending on the time of day.
Does anyone still have an idea how this could work? Many thanks in advance!

You could try to set up conditions on each connection out of the Input folder on when a file can go through that connection.

Thank you Jan Suhr for this excellent proposal. I will try thif of course.
In the meantime, however, I did another successful test.

Hi, JSlater,
the idea of a hold job was the right one. The times can now be stored for each output connection and it now works as desired.
Thank you!
