Sending a print a job periodicallly

Post by valaxedo »

Dear all,

I'm facing a problem I'm unable to solve myself about sending the same job periodically.

I'll like to send from a static folder to several intranet shared folders two differents images at the same date and time without having to delete them.
The goal would be to catch the input file in the dedicated folder path, then to copy them on various shared folder for each printer I want to test.

I tried many times with differents Switch tools but I did not succeeded so far.

I thought it would be feasible with the Job Repeater app.
But it seems I'm just able to reprint without any specific date and time, which I need.

I also started to use the inject job but this function does not fit the needs as well.

I finally found it might be possible to send the files via the FTP sent to the FTP printer fucntion.
Once again, it flaied.

So, if you had any idea the way to do it, you will be more than welcome, for sure!

Best regards.

You can do this with a couple of free apps. Use Dummy Job Clock to inject a dummy file into the flow at whatever interval you need. Then you can use Inject Lite to pick up your print file from the static location, and copy it to the printers. It would look something like the attached image.

"Dummy job clock" is not suited for the described use case because it starts injecting every time you start the flow. You have to use the regular "Inject job" element and configure it like this. There is NO input folder. On the OUTGOING connection you set "Trigger" to "Time of day" and define the desired time of day and you inject a specific job without deleting it. When you start the flow nothing will happen until the configured time of day is reached, which could be tomorrow.

Oh and you may want to define the "Day-of-week window" property of the flow itself so you can avoid the files being sent on weekends for example.

Hello Freddy,

Thank you so much for your reply. :P

Your assumption was good and not mine for sure.
Because I forgot two main things. ;)

The first one to point a specific job and so far I did it with a folder instead.
The second one to avoid deleting job after it has been injected.

I just tested as you explianed; so far so good. :D

Last question, whath is the relation between "Repeat unit" and "Repeat delay"?
If I need just a print per day at a specific time, does the time fit enough?
Or should I care also these functionnalities too?

Best.

Freddy,

forget what I asked before...
I tested the parameters and I know what happens now with this, according the entered values.

Best.
