Change the Predefined Date Format

Hello All,
I created an "Add Object" action to add text that includes the current date. The trouble is, the two predefined date variables lists don't conform to the format I want, which would be 02.28.2018 [day.month.date]. I tried a combination of other variables such as "%dd% %mm% %yyyy%", then "%ddmmyyyy%, but it didn't show up as the date, just what I had typed in. Is there a way to change the format of the date for predefined variables available in Add Object text?
