Need help with adding bleed and crops

Post by hep@harwill.net »

Is there an action that will take a pdf with a page size the same as the media box size, and add bleed and crops? Using PitstipPro 2017

Dunno if this is what you're after, but I have an action list that will increase the media box 10 mm on all sides and add printer marks according to the trim box. I.e. if you have a page with the media box 210 x 297 mm it will change the media box to 230 x 317 mm and add printer marks for 210 x297 mm.

Do you mean that if media box size equals trim box's size, it would add bleed? But otherwise, if media box is bigger than trim box, it wouldn't?

If you own switch, then it's easy to do.

Standard Action Lists > Add > Generate Bleed to 3mm if None, and Correctly Set all Page Boxes

That should do what you want.

As far as this action of Pitstop is straightforward and easy to use, also said to be ideal for all the Office type of documents, where all page boxes are equal and most likely to = TrimBox, this does not always work. Or most often it does not work at all.
Especially when there is no PageBoxes defined at all.

I have loads of files coming with no PageBoxes defined at all. And not only they are from any Office application.
As an example - <xmp:CreatorTool>Swift Publisher 4</xmp:CreatorTool>
<pdf:Producer>Mac OS X 10.11.6 Quartz PDFContext</pdf:Producer>
Pitstop Inspector is showing NONE Defined.
Running custom Action to simply check if there are Pageboxes, returns 0. Yet when Individual PageBoxes are checked ie.: trimbox - it returns value.

The same about Switch which returns values (correctly, as per the screen view and what we know the file is), yet they are not there according to PitStop. How is this possible ?? On such occasions - this action DOES NOT WORK.
It enlarges page boxes as per the action definition and respective steps. Yet the bleed creation fails, getting no visual bleed at all.
Only when Trim, Bleed and Media Box are defined by hand (and not in Pitstop to be honest), this action then is likely to work.

Any hints as to how to solve this kind of cases ??

For the Add Bleed to work, it's true you have to have a Trim and Bleed Box.
They define where the Bleed starts and stops and also the size of the Bleed.

I can't comment on the Actions (please contact support and they will take a look), but looking at the PitStop Inspector will tell you all the details about the page boxes.

You don't need to set the Page Boxes manually, but you might need a couple of strategies.
Can you send some typical sample files and I will take a look.
