Seeking information about impure grays and blacks in 'Remap color' action

Post by Gusgsm »

Hello,

Bear with me, please but there are some details in PitStop action lists I am unable to find detailed information about

One of them is related to the criteria PitStop uses to determine what are “impure gray” and “impure black” tones (two suboptions in "Remap color" action, "color" option). (I know and understand the idea of rich black and all that), but:
  • How does PitStop decide what is an impure gray or an impure black? Is it a quantity, a sum of colorants, some kind of algorithm?
  • Is that decision based / dependent on colour management?
  • In any case, is it a setting the user can modify or tweak somehow?
Thanks in advance :)

Gustavo,

Impure Black and Impure Grey are determined by checking if CMY or RGB values are approximately equal. Essentially, is the possible intent to create a gray or black which should be on a single K channel at output. This evaluation is not user-adjustable.

Is there a specific use case that you are trying to address?
Somewhat familiar with Enfocus products.
