Find and Replace text

Post by phorsley »

Hi,

We are running a trial version of Pitstop Server 11 to test, we currently have Pitstop Server 8.

Is it possible in 11 to set up a hot folder to run a Find and Replace Text.

We know we can do this in Pitstop Pro 11 on a one by one basis but we have 1000's of PDFs to do.

Also when we tried this in Pitstop Pro 11 if the text line wasn't a complete line i.e. the line was split into words then the find and replace would not recognise the 3 three words we are trying to replace.

thanks in advance

It is not possible to do this with an action list. Would not that be a bit dangerous? What sort of text changes do you want to do?

There is a feature in 11 to "Merge into text lines". This will attempt to recreate several chunks of text into a single line. This works pretty well, but because of the way PDF stores text this has its limitations. For example, when there is a font change on a line the line will not be "reconstituted".

Find and Replace text

It would be replacing the words "Financial Services Authority" with Financial Conduct Authority" which appears on the back cover of all documents. we cant shorten the the words otherwise it would affect to much other text in the document.

Not knowing Pitstop Server 11, is there no option to set up a merge text lines then find and replace text.

thanks for your help

It is easy to make an action list with just two actions:

Select text segments

Merge into text lines

That will do the merging into text lines, but there are no actions with which you can do a find and replace. You can select text containing a certain string, but that is it.

Find and Replace text

Hello,

Apago has a tool, pdfmodtext, that can search and replace text in PDF files. One of our customers, Hallmark Cards, uses it to reprice and change "Made in" text on their greeting cards.

We have a Switch configurator available for pdfmodtext.
