Checking for and Changing Maximum Ink Coverage

Post by scieslicki »

Hi,

We print book covers on digital (Xerox) printers, which eventually get film laminated. When toner cover gets high, the film lam has a very difficult time adhering properly after all the finishing steps, especially in the area of the spine creases.

Is it possible for PitStop Pro to check for a certain total ink coverage limit (as a percentage), and automatically reduce the total ink percentage? I would imagine this would cause a shift in color though.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Pitstop 12 can calculate ink usage and include that information in the report (PDF or XML). We had a customer that retrieved those values from the XML report and used it to control the workflow.

There is an ink coverage check in percentages in PitStop. It is in the Color section of a Preflight Profile and it is the first "Available check": "Ink coverage". Set it to error, so you can easily check whether the file in question has a higher value or not.

When the file errors you can execute an Action List with just one action in it: Apply DeviceLink. In the parameters you have to browse for an ICC device link profile. Note that PitStop can apply the device link, but it cannot create it. You need special software to do that.

Thank you both for your reply. We'll try out the device link approach.
