Archive version history and a defined number of versioned files

Post by pfischer »

Hello everyone,
I have two questions about storing files in a file system.

1. i am looking for a way to archive a "version history", where the newest file should keep the original file name.
The functionality should therefore be the reverse of the "Duplicate - Add version number" function.

An example:
The file 12345.pdf arrives today. It is stored in the hierarchy path.
If another file with the name 12345.pdf arrives tomorrow, I can add a version identifier (e.g. _1 or #1 etc.) to the new file.
However, the older (first) file retains the original name 12345.pdf.

Is it possible that the latest version always keeps the original name 12345.pdf and the older versions are numbered?

2. is there a possibility that only a defined number of versions are kept?
I.e. for example the latest version and the two predecessors. If a fourth file is added, three are kept again and the oldest is deleted.

Many thanks for your tips!
