Changing color within a gradient

Post by prepressman_ntsf »

I have a file where, when a global change is run to remap a color, all instances of that color are changed, aside from that color within a gradient.

We have a client where, for a job run on an Xerox Iridesse, where the spots must be renamed so that when the Iridesse picks it up, it designates the color to preset CMYK values.

You can see in the image above one of the gradients that goes from left to right. It is subtle. However, the gradient is incorrect.

You can see above that it is PANTONE 431C, but it should appear as below "NSB_431 C

I cannot figure out how to alter the spot in the gradient. I attempted to, in the inspector panel above under Actions, select "convert to spot" and I chose NSB_431 C from the saved list, but when I look in the separations panel under print production, it is showing up on the process plates.

Is there a correct, easy way to do this?

Thanks

Your process is correct but I suspect we might have a bug here because here is a workaround that works for gradients (Shadings):

- Create an Action List
- Hit record button
- Select the shading object using PANTONE 431 C
- Open Inspector/Separations - Remap
- The color "PANTONE 431 C" should appear listed. Select it.
- In the "Remap color to", open drodown and select "Pick color".
- Select "NSB_431 C" (create it upfront if not existing in your color database).
- Click "Apply"
- Return to the ActioN List Editor, stop recording.

You can revert document and now test the Action List. Note that I had to do it twice (one for the stroke and one for the fill).

Now you have an Action List you can use. Only issue is that the "Remap DeviceN color space" Action that appears is not editable. So if you need to consider other PANTONE?, you will need to redo those steps.

Thanks for your help, Loic.

I followed your steps as enumerated, and as when I did so manually, I wound up with the same conundrum. When I ran the action list according
to your instructions, it did, as seen in the inspector, convert the PANTONE 431 C (Spot Color) to NSB_431 C (see first image). However, when I look in the Print Production>Output Preview console (See below), NSB_431 C does not appear there(?) It only appears in the inspector panel.

I am curious if there is some strange attribute on the container. In the wireframe, that container has an X as though it were a picture box. The solid fill behind it, which should also be converted to NSB_431 C, does not have the picture box X.

I have attached the file so that anyone can see if they can affect the change successfully.

There is a well known Acrobat bug that doesn't refresh the separations in the Output Preview panel. Close the modified doc and open again, it should be updated just fine.
Right now, yiou can trust what PitStop inspector better.

Hi Loic,

Yes, I didn't know it was a well-known bug, but now that you mention I have noticed this being a persistent issue. I will check to see if that resolves the matter.

Hi Loïc,

I've learned something new with your action list, thank you.
I think it's also easier. And you can pick or grab the spot colors directly in the action.
