Removal of CMYK plates from pdf

Post by AngelaM »

Is it possible to remove the CMYK plates from a pdf? I have a file that I generated out of illustrator that is composed entirely of spot colors. However, when I generate a pdf it includes 4 empty cmyk inks. I need to remove these prior to submitting to the printer so the pdf only contains the spot color separations. Is there a process that will allow me to remove these plates so they are no longer present in the file similar to the remapping color process?

When you say the PDF includes "4 empty cmyk inks", do you mean Acrobat's output preview shows Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black in the list of Separations? If so, you can probably ignore that - Acrobat *always* shows those, even if there is no CMYK in the PDF.

If you mean the PDF contains DeviceN or NChannel colours with process colours, you can use PitStop's "Remap color" action to remap the Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black channels to the special colour "None". "None" (with a capital N!) is a special colour defined in the PDF spec which literally means "don't put this on any plate" - so it effectively removes that channel from the colour space.
