automatic restart

Post by danb »

I have two switch servers running v18 update 3 on macOS Sierra with 32GB of ram.
Both servers are scheduled to restart weekly.
After each restart I receive an administrator alert email:
Error on POCswitch

Switch Server quit unexpectedly
The problem was detected during Switch Server startup at: 2019-06-24 10:07:45

Is there a recommended clean way of restarting so switch is not being 'quit unexpectedly'?
Or is this expected nice behavior and not at all a problem?

thanks

When the system reboots it sends a signal to all applications, including Switch with the request to close down. The problem is that Switch takes a long time to close down cleanly and the operating doesn't wait for that. So it closes down Switch before it is completely shut down.

It's always best to cleanly close down an application, so it is best to try to avoid is. However, I personally have no bad experience when this force close happens when Switch is not actively doing anything at that moment.

When you would be running Switch on Windows you could run it as a Windows Service. It is possible to cleanly close down Switch running as a WIndows Service using a command. You could then run that command half an hour before you do the reboot for example. Unfortunately I'm not aware of a similar solution on mac.
