I am in need of creating a fixed length or space delimited file from an excel document. Has anyone able to create such a file with any applications or has an other experience they can provide?

You could try to look at Easy Data Transform.
It can be integrated with Switch. See this post: viewtopic.php?p=15038&hilit=easy+data+transform#p15038

It does not seem to be able to make a fixed length file out of the box.
But it has a good forum, so if you ask there, perhaps you can get help with creating the transform, which you then can automate with Switch.
