Upgrade to version 24 / Trouble

I tried to upgrade, but the system would not work.
There was additionally an email mentioning some new passwords or keys.... in order to validate the installation.
Has the validation method changed?

I'm confused.

Could someone describe the necessary steps to upgrade to the latest version?
