Disregarding Added Effects in Resolution Checks

Post by JPrintNinja »

We are hoping there may be a way to stop added "effects" from triggering false low-resolution warnings in Pitstop? For example: drop-shadows, transparencies, and gradients.

Dropbox link below containing our current Preflight Profile as well as an example spread giving the false flags:

We do already try to filter out "soft masks" when checking resolution which is one setting recommended to us, but that doesn't seem to be solving the issue 100% of the time.

Any help? Thoughts? Pass-alongable Action List? hehe

Our "solution" is to set the resolution warning to 149 ppi. I have never had a customer complained about image resolution if it's above 149 ppi no matter the product. Our Indesign job options are of course set to 350 ppi.

The background image that covers the whole page has a resolution of 147ppi. That one can be excluded based on the fact that it covers the complete page.

There is also the resolution of the backgrounds of the two portraits. These have a resolution of 115ppi. They are a combination of two images on top of each other. Just select the top portrait, remove it and when you then select the background you will see the resolution is only 115ppi.

What these background images have in common is the fact that they are overlapped by other objects. It is certainly not generically applicable (!!) but attached is an Action List that only checks the resolution of images that are not covered by other objects. I set the resolution check to a high value so it detects the two portraits but not the background images. Perhaps you can do something with it.
