An Action list suitable for different "Producers"

Post by DJS »

is it possible to have an action list that will run different action depending upon the "Producer" ie a PDF exported from word will generate different actions compared to a pdf generated from Indesign?

If you have Switch you can create a preflight profile with a list of action lists to execute.
And then the action lists can be switched on or off based on variables.
And the variables can be the producer.

Thank you, sadly we don't have switch, only Pitstop Pro, (we upload the PPP and variable xml to our online shop providers Pitstop server, and have no other access) so guess that it won't be possible :)

Are you tackling this by the right end?

I get that there are many producers and not all them doing the greatest job. Yet, you should focus on whet are exactly your problems.

For example, if such a producer doesn't create a proper TrimBox, you can simply select pages where the TrimBox are not defined. If they are none selected…fine, next item. If they are any selected, then let's fix them.

You shouldn't be driven by the producer but rather by the individual issues that you can then fix on a more agnostic level. If you really think something can only be tackled by knowing the producer, feel free to share.

Thank you Loic,

Not sure if I am overthinking this or not :D

Our problem is flightchecking anything created out of MS Office needs to have the trim/art/bleed boxes set as they are commonly not present. Not a problem with the solutions I have been given by our Community. but the solution will also amend the boxes and add bleed etc to "proper" PDFs output from the Adobe suite, something not needed as they would already have everything set correctly, and could cause issues

Using the "Producer", was the only way we could think of that would differentiate anything from MS Office, but that doesn't catch everything, especially if created on a Mac... but happy to be enlightened!

Our biggest struggle is that we are using the PPPs made from Pitstop Pro, on the Infigo platform and don't have access to anything server side

It always relates to the fundamentals of PitStop, i.e. Selections.

Your problem is, like I suspected page boxes that in some cases are defined, in other are not. So, what you want is to get all pages without proper page boxes and fix them. That is done with a selection:

If all pages have proper TrimBox, you get nothing selected. And every Action that follows produces no effect.

If you follow that lead, you would see that it's very unlikely that you really need to do things for a specific producer. But once again, happy to be proven wrong.

Quick follow up... have used that action as part of the PPP and all works as I had originally hoped for, thank you very much for all the help and advice
