Using Ghostscript in Switch

Hello,

I am trying to create a flow where pdfs will be converted to jpg and png images. I had first created a flow to use the Photoshop plugin but this was way too slow and had annoying popups. Now I was looking on the forum for better ways to implement this and ImageMagick/Ghostscript pops up a lot. When browsing the Ghostscript website I noticed that the free version falls under the AGPL license. I am no legal expert so I do not understand it completely. Is it ok to use the free version in the Switch version with the CLI command through ImageMagick? Or do you have to buy the commercial license? It would be for use on our internal office network.

Hi,

I have no feedback for the legal side. I just wanted to mention that if you already have PitStop Server, there is a PDF2Image app you can use to generate PNG, JPG and event TIFF out of it.

My understanding is that installing and using the free version of GhostScript with Switch does not violate any license terms, provided you do not incorporate GhostScript into a SaaS product that you sell to customers. You are, however, free to use it internally as a tool within your company.

Thank your for your responses.

I had also tried Enfocus PDF2Image but the colors did not come out right. (We now use an old script to create the images and the colors should be somewhat similar.) In the meantime I have consulted with our legal department and they said it is ok to use Ghostscript as long as it will only be used internally.

Hello

"but the colors did not come out right"

Did you enable color management?

If yes and still not satisfied, I would really like to get in touch with me so that we can investigate why color conversion where not satisfying.
