Question: can workflow automation logic help even for non-printing industries cost estimates?

I hope everyone is doing fine. I am working mostly outside the printing industry, but I follow many discussions here about Enfocus tools, workflow automation and PDF checking, because I see many smart ideas in how you handle job files, catch errors and make production more efficient. It makes me think if similar logic could help in other industries too. In my work sometimes I deal with detailed quantity calculations, where we need to check materials, labor and measurements very carefully, something we call steel structure estimation when it relates to structural projects. In this kind of tasks, even a small mistake in quantities or missing one item can create a big problem later, and it reminds me a little how prepress must catch missing fonts, wrong bleed, color issues, and other problems before printing. So I am curious if anyone here has experience or opinion about using workflow or automation concepts from Enfocus in other technical fields. Do you think the validation logic used in PDF workflows could be adapted for estimation or takeoff-type work, where every small element must be checked? Or maybe you have heard of Enfocus tools being used in a non-printing environment for process control or file validation? I believe some principles are similar—verifying each component, reducing manual error, and ensuring everything is correct before final output—so I would be happy to hear any thoughts or examples from this community. Thank you for reading.

Of course! Switch is versatile and goes far beyond the Printing Industry alone. I can think of that publisher who uses a Switch flow to process audio files for examples. And we even use it here at Enfocus for internal processes that are not related to Print.

What makes it very beautiful is that thanks to its Scripting capacities, you can even built your own connectors. We have an outstanding Switch apps developper network who continuously push new items, see here: https://www0.enfocus.com/en/appstore/overview

I think that the best you can do now is to contact us at Enfocus so that we can put you in touch with a reseller near by who can talk to you about Switch more in depth and how it could help you for your production.
