Simple Word to PDF Workflow-Problem

Hello everyone,

for testing a new Workflow I just tried simply creating a PDF-file out of my Word (*.doc)-file.

Simple workflow: Input (all file-types get transferred) - Word (save as PDF, no Macros) - Output.

But what switch does is just renaming the Word-file I copied into the input-folder and leaving it there, not moving to problem-jobs, not creating the PDF-file.

As I'm really unexperienced with switch I actually don't see my mistake. Might it be because the MS Word-Version installed on the server is a 30-days-trial? Or what else am I doing wrong?

I hope you can help me, please excuse my partially poor english, I'm not a native speaker.

My experience is, that this usually happens due to restricted user rights. Try checking if the user that runs Switch has the correct read- and write permissions to these files.

Thank you for the response!
But that unfortunatelly does not solve my problem...
Writing a file with Adobe Acrobat Pro works (but this sadly cannot open doc-files ;) )

More suggestions would be really nice, I'm still working to fix that problem.

Update: After about an hour Switch moves the File to Problem-Jobs, saying the Job was aborted because the process took too long.
Doesn't solve my problem but maybe a hint to the solution... :(

try using callas pdfToolbox Server. It has a built in Word to PDF conversion function.

Thank you a lot, I'm pretty sure this would solve my problem.

But unfortunatelly, regarding the costs, this is not an option for me.
As there is (or should be) a way to convert files directly with MS Word (or more specific: the configurator), I actually want to use this tool.
At the moment I am using MS Word 2013, any experience with this?
I'll try downgrading it to 2010 or 2007 soon, maybe this is a hint...

I'm always happy for new tipps!

I made a workflow with the Word configurator and Office 2010, I had only once the situation you're describing and the solution was to recreate the document. The workflow made a least 10000 convertions to PDF the last year.
The only difference was, that we're working with docx.

Best regards,
Thomas

Found the solution:

Switch Watchdog must not run as a system service.

Now everything is just working great, thank you everybody for your replies.

Must "NOT"? Watchdog is an important piece of Switch to gave running as a service.

You may run the switch watchdog under a named user. This user should have access to your office installation.
