"Remove PieceInfo" action not removing PieceInfo!

I'm using a modified version of the standard "Minimize File Size 3.0" action list (my ultimate goal here is to squeeze an artwork file preview to under 20MB for email attachments - the image is being flattened and rasterized with downsampling).

I've checked the box to remove PieceInfo under the "Remove Metadata" action, but this action list still sometimes outputs very large files that have hundreds of megs of PieceInfo intact (according to Acrobat's audit space tool). These files are not locked for editing, certified, or any other kind of permission restriction. Why is this PieceInfo not being deleted?

By default, PDF uses incremental updates. So if you simply save the PDF, chances are high that size is indeed not affected because previous state will be preserved. Save document as new file to have the PDF starting on a "blank" page.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure if this is the issue - I just tried Save As (and also Save as other → Reduced size PDF) in Acrobat, and the output file was the same size in both cases.

Just a heads up, to "flatten and rasterize" objects often increases the file size.

Unfortunately in this case, it really seems to be the PieceInfo that's the problem:

I have just run a "Remove metadata" with the "PieceInfo" box checked on a file of 1.6MB and it went down to 261KB.

The "Minimize file size 3.0" does not remove PieceInfo: the "Remove metadata" Action in that Action List does not have the "PieceInfo" box checked (@Loïc: it probably should). You have spotted that correctly and changed that. Well done. However, you cannot change a default Action List, so it got saved in the Local section. Please double check that you were using the correct version of the Action List.

We investigated and understood why this doesn't apply to some files like the one you sent me. I will ask that we take this into consideration for an upcoming release.
